The Pacific Farmers Organisation (PFO) and Breadfruit People is pleased to co-host the 2026 ʻUlu Hoʻolauleʻa and Global Breadfruit Summit, taking place in South Kona, Hawaiʻi, from 19 to 24 September 2026.
The week-long celebration will bring together breadfruit farmers, farmer organisations, scientists, educators, chefs, cultural practitioners, entrepreneurs, policymakers and food-systems leaders from across the Pacific, the Caribbean and other regions. Together, participants will share knowledge, celebrate the cultural importance of breadfruit—known in Hawaiʻi as ʻulu—and explore its potential to support more resilient, healthy and sustainable food systems.staradvertiser+1
Breadfruit has long been an important traditional food across many Pacific Island communities. It offers strong potential to improve local food production, strengthen farmer livelihoods, support value-added enterprises and contribute to climate-resilient agriculture.
PFO is proud to join fellow partners in creating a space where farmers’ knowledge and experiences are central to the conversation. The event recognises that farmers, Indigenous Peoples and local communities are not only food producers, but also knowledge holders, innovators and leaders in protecting productive landscapes and strengthening local economies.
The celebration will begin with the ʻUlu Hoʻolauleʻa on 19 September, featuring breadfruit-inspired food, cooking demonstrations, local products and community activities. The Global Breadfruit Summit will follow from 22–24 September at the OUTRIGGER Kona Resort & Spa, with keynote discussions, farmer and producer perspectives, research exchanges and an ʻulu culinary showcase.
Through this event, PFO looks forward to strengthening connections among Pacific farmers and global partners, sharing practical experiences, and promoting breadfruit as a crop that can contribute to food security, nutrition, culture, livelihoods and climate resilience.
