Nukualofa, Kingdom of Tonga – September 16, 2024 – Pacific Farmer Organisations together with co-hosts, the Growers Federation of Tonga, Mainstreaming of Rural Development Tonga Trust, and Nishi Trading are excited to announce the 2024 Pacific Breadfruit Festival, set to take place on September 16th at MORDI Tonga Trust on Nuku’alofa.
Over 100 participants are expected to attend from 15 Pacific and Caribbean countries together with local government, farmer and NGO representatives from across Tonga. The Breadfruit Festival will take participants on a learning journey of breadfruit from the raising of trees in the nursery through to growing breadfruit on the farm, cooking with breadfruit, value adding, breadfruit in schools and breadfruit through story and song.
The event is supported by the Farmers’ Organisations for Africa, Caribbean and Pacific (FO4ACP) Program. This joint initiative, funded by the European Union (EU), the Organisation of African, Caribbean, and Pacific States (OACPS), International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and Pacific Farmer Organisations (PFO), aims to boost incomes, enhance food security and nutrition, and improve the livelihoods of organized smallholder and family farmers in the ACP region.
