In 2018, a review of the coconut industry highlighted the balance of trade in edible oils for domestic use imposed an enormous strain on the Solomon Islands economy.
In collaboration with Chottu Estate, Kokonut Pacific Solomon Islands, Pacific Community, Moses Pelomo, and Kastom Gaden Association – a report led by Richard Beyer addressed this review and identified the steps required to reach a point at which imported oil can be replaced with locally produced coconut oil through a program of quality improvement.
