At the Pacific Resilience Meeting, Minoru Nishi, Nishi Trading, explains how global events have affected Tonga’s food security and how farmers and farmer organisations are the solution providers.
Minoru Nishi shares a compelling perspective: “70% of our farmers here live in rural areas, they are an important source of supply for our food security for the planet, and I don’t think enough attention is given to them to address their needs at the grassroots level….We need to work together, and a partnerships need to include farmers, businesses, and donor agencies; they need to come and collaborate but listen to the voices of our farmers and fishermen in order to develop policies and systems to address some of the challenges that we all face.” Listen to the full discussion on the outlook of food security in Tonga.
