Day 5 of the #PacificSolutionsWeek saw participants gather at Nishi Trading for a special event honoring His Royal Highness Crown Prince Tupouto’a ‘Ulukalala, who officially commissioned Nishi Trading’s new solar panels and cool storage facility—marking 10 years since he inaugurated the initial packhouse building in 2014. This milestone supports a vision for an inclusive, resilient food system in the Pacific. The advanced cool storage facility empowers Nishi growers with the latest technologies to reduce food waste and promote economic growth while operating sustainably in an energy-efficient, climate-resilient environment. The day began with a tour of Nishi Trading’s renowned farming operations, which exemplify climate-adaptive practices in modern agriculture. A highlight of the day was the official opening of the Coolstore and Solar Project, a significant step forward in renewable energy use for agriculture, reducing carbon footprints and fostering energy independence. The event also featured “Impact Stories from the Region,” where speakers shared inspiring accounts of local and regional initiatives tackling the impacts of climate change. These stories illustrated the power of targeted environmental efforts and encouraged the sharing of innovative technologies and projects to help mitigate climate-related challenges. As climate change continues to affect traditional farming, this Climate Adaptation Day provided a platform for learning, collaboration, and inspiration, empowering farmers, policymakers, and environmental advocates to adopt sustainable, resilient agricultural practices. PFO is proud to have supported this initiative through the Farmers’ Organizations for Africa, Caribbean and Pacific- fo4acp, in partnership with PHAMA Plus and the Australian Government.
