Pacific Farmer Organisations to host FO4ACP Wrap Up Workshop and Learning and Planning Meeting

May 2025

Friday 2

Nadi, Fiji (May 2nd, 2025): The Pacific Farmer Organisation (PFO) is convening a key event in Nadi, Fiji, bringing together farmer organizations and partners to mark the conclusion of the impactful Farmer Organisations for Africa, Caribbean, and Pacific (FO4ACP) Project (2019-2025) and to strategically plan for the future.

The FO4ACP project, implemented by the Pacific Island Farmers Organisation Network (PIFON), has significantly benefited its members across 14 Pacific nations and over 30 farmer organizations. It has fostered sustainable agriculture, empowered farmer organizations, and improved value chains through collaborative efforts.

As the FO4ACP project nears its end, PFO is hosting a Wrap-Up Workshop to review achievements, assess the impact, and extract valuable lessons. Participants will also discuss FO4IMPACT, the new phase of support from the European Union. PFO is anticipating to host 55 Pacific-Asia participants from 11 countries from Hawaii, Fiji, Tonga, Solomon Islands, Cook Islands, Samoa, Vanuatu, PNG, New Caledonia, Timor Leste and Philippines.

Concurrently, PFO will facilitate a Learning and Planning Meeting focusing on its Climate Resilient Farming in the Pacific Islands (CRFPI) and Farmer Organisations Leading Research & Innovation On Agroecology For Sustainabble Food Systems (FORI). The meeting will provide targeted training and capacity building for PFO members.

The joint workshop and meeting aims to:

  • Evaluate the impact of FO4ACP, including successes and challenges.
  • Identify key lessons to inform future initiatives, including FO4IMPACT.
  • Facilitate collaboration and alignment among farmer organizations and partners.
  • Ensure a smooth transition from FO4ACP to FO4IMPACT.
  • Strengthen partnerships between farmer organizations, research institutions, and development agencies.
  • Enhance organizational capacity through training on climate finance, strategic planning, and financial management.
  • Reflect on the CRFPI framework and FORI to boost climate advocacy and access to funding.
  • Empower farmer organizations with skills and networks for policy influence and sustainable financing.

The upcoming Wrap-Up Workshop and Learning and Planning Meeting marks a pivotal moment for the Pacific Farmer Organisation and its network. By evaluating past achievements, strategizing for future initiatives like FO4IMPACT, and building capacity in critical areas such as climate finance and agroecology, PFO is set to further empower its members and drive sustainable agricultural development across the Pacific Islands. The event will foster collaboration, strengthen partnerships, and ensure a seamless continuation of impactful projects for the benefit of Pacific farmers and their communities.
