Nursery Management Training hosted by Bula Agro Nursery

Nadi, Fiji – June 25th 2024, Sant Kumar, owner of Bula Agro Nursery, has successfully concluded a Tel-A-Woman program training, imparting essential nursery management skills to seven dedicated farmers from the Western Division of Fiji. This initiative, supported by the Farmers’ Organizations for Africa, Caribbean, and Pacific (FO4ACP), aims to equip farmers with sustainable agricultural practices to enhance crop resilience and productivity.

Key Learnings from the Training:

  • Natural Pest Control: Participants learned organic methods to keep pests at bay, promoting healthier crops without harmful chemicals.
  • Composting: Transforming kitchen scraps into nutrient-rich compost, turning waste into valuable garden resources.
  • Potting Media: Selecting the optimal mix for healthy seedling growth, ensuring strong plant development.
  • Open-Pollinated Seeds: Emphasizing the importance of saving seeds and promoting biodiversity through open-pollination.
  • Raising Seeds and Seedlings: Mastering the process from seed to sprout, ensuring successful germination and growth.
  • Plant Propagation Secrets: Techniques for multiplying plants, enabling farmers to expand their gardens efficiently.

Empowering Farmers:

This knowledge will enable the farmers to better manage their fruit and vegetable crops, fostering resilience in the face of climate change. By applying these sustainable practices, they can grow stronger, more resilient crops, ensuring food security and environmental sustainability.

Sant Kumar emphasized the importance of community support, stating, “Sharing is caring! Farmers helping farmers is key. That’s why we opened these trainings to the public – thanks to all your interest!”

The Tel-A-Woman Program is made possible through the collaborative efforts of the European Union, African, Caribbean, and Pacific Group of States (ACP), International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and Pacific Farmer Organisations, underlining the global commitment to sustainable agriculture and farmer empowerment.
