KGA Partners with Rural Training Center and World Fish Gizo to Foster Future Agricultural Leaders

July 2024

Under the FO4ACP project, KGA has made significant strides this quarter by engaging four RTC students—William, Stanley, Caroline, and Freezer from Malaita RTC, Isabel Province, and Choiseul. Continuing from the first quarter, these students have played a crucial role in enhancing the production of open-pollinated seeds, supporting staff in various field activities, and gaining hands-on training essential for their future careers.

As the quarter concluded, William, Caroline, and Stanley successfully completed their practicum, leaving a positive impact on KGA’s operations. This experience not only benefited the organization but also provided a solid foundation for the students, equipping them with practical skills and knowledge.

KGA’s partnership with World Fish Gizo has further enriched this training program. After initial field training at KGA, the RTC students are sent to maintain and care for the model and learning garden at Nusatupe for a period of 4-8 weeks on a rotational basis. William has already completed his 8-week rotation by the end of May, and Freezer is currently continuing his learning journey at the Nusatupe farm.

In addition to these accomplishments, as three RTC students return to complete their studies, KGA has welcomed five new RTC students who will continue their practicum this quarter. This ongoing collaboration highlights KGA’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of agricultural leaders and underscores the importance of practical, hands-on training in sustainable farming practices.

The partnership between KGA and World Fish Gizo exemplifies a shared vision of community engagement and agricultural development, setting a strong precedent for future initiatives.
