Farmer Organisations in PNG striving for better collaboration

July 2016

WiADF members attending a training

PIFON has been working in partnership with the PNG Women in Agriculture Development (WiADF) to support farmer organisations across PNG and also to enhance collaboration and the sharing of experiences between these organisations. This collaboration is made possible through the IFAD funded MTCP II project.

Despite very high logistic costs, PNG WiADF has managed to utilise a small amount of money for a large impact. Included among the activities being implemented in 2016 through the MTCP II project are:

  • Profiling of farmer organisations to highlight core activities and opportunities for collaboration (a total of 15 farmer organisations have been profiled). This profiles use both text and video to showcase the organisations.
  • Training in key commodity areas including: Livestock, Horticulture, Floriculture, Aqua Culture and Resource Centre’s Activities. Farmer trainings on pig, poultry and fish have been completed including capacity building on basic bookkeeping and financial literacy.
  • Training on proposal writing for farmer organisations, a total of 20 farmer organisations have participated in this training with further follow up/mentoring provided with the aim to support three proposals to identified donor partners by the end of August
  • PNG WiADF is also in the process of developing a website which will promote their work and also hightlight various farmer organisations that are affiliated with them. Funding for the development of this website is provided through the EU funded Pacific Agriculture Policy Project (PAPP).

For more information on PNG WiADF see their profile on our website.
