Green Pillars : Episode 13

S E P T E M B E R  2 0 2 0

Monday 28

Unsustainable land use in Taveuni has seen a sharp decline in soil fertility and crop yields.

Our friends at Green Pillars are kicking off the Garden Island series with Tei Tei Taveuni’s Alan Petersen where he explains how the farmer organisation is working with its members to reverse years of damage. You’ll visit two of Tei Tei Taveuni’s model farms designed to help farmers understand sustainable practices.

Also in this episode, you’ll meet the owners of Pacific Produce PTY LTD – Peter Kjaer and Lillian Ekbom – a Danish couple who have made Fiji their home since they made the move over 30 years ago.

The 22 part television series is in response to a growing public interest in gardening and farming, and is funded by the Farmers’ Organizations for Africa, Caribbean and Pacific- FO4ACP Programme, a joint partnership between the European Union, Africa Caribbean and Pacific (ACP), International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and Pacific Island Farmers Organisation Network (PIFON).
